Caldina 110v AC power outlet - anyones work?

Has anyone managed to get the 110v AC power supply working in the caldina? I assume all ST215's come with them - plug is located near rear seat ash tray. Ive trued runnign a laptop powersupply off mine but no go...

would be very useful though if i could get it going!

110V wont power your power supply, NZ is 240V member, unless its a US laptop.

Some laptops have auto-voltage. My monitor for instance runs on 110V right up to 240V.

Anyone got a pic of this powersupply, i didnt even know caldinas had them till just before. Not a silly idea i suppose.

Its the powersupply that you would need to check, not the laptop - and yes mine is 110-230v as are many (most?) laptop power supplies

You will probably find that the output is square wave or modified sine wave, and your power supply may not work as the voltage peaks may be lower than it requires.

I agree that it probably runs a modified sine wave, as a pure sine wave inverter is pretty expensive, but a simple power supply for a laptop, which just rectifies back to DC, shouldn't have any problems with it provided the output from the inverter is a true 110VRMS.

Infact when you think about it, it seems kind of silly going from DC (car supply) -> AC -> DC to charge your laptop, you could easily build a voltage regulator circuit (or buy a pre-made one) provided the required voltage for charging the laptop is less than about 13VDC, and it will be more efficient than running through 2 wave converters.

I guess that doesn't answer the question of whether the outlet works though...

Bit of a problem when your laptop runs 20v

From what I could find, transformers are more likely to have problems, due to the voltage peaks being lower than expected.

BTW I think the switch says 100v so maybe it's too low anyway.

i cant say ive check the 110V plug, but my 12V rear plug goes.
however the button must be pushed in and the car must be in the 'on' position (eg it dont go in the 'acc' position on the ignition)

Yeah we run the playstation, laptop,etc off the rear (boot) plug, but don't think we have tried the one by the rear seats...adding to our list too

i ran a fone charger at the back of where TWSTD said, it seemed to charge my fone alright... but u have to check the wattage of what your laptop wants, the car outputs 50va? does it support 50va?

there should be a button on the left side of your steering wheel on the dash that turns it on or off when the lights on your supply is on it also works for the 12v supply in the boot
