Know someone with a slide hammer :)

Not really too hard, but you may have issues getting the nut off the CV if its on really tight. May also have issues getting the CV back onto the shaft in some cases as those clips can be a right c*nt.

Basically, remove wheel, CV nut, lower ball joint (by the nut on the joint or the 3ish bolts underneath holding the ball joint on the lower arm), swing the hub out of the way, cut the boot off, bash with a hammer/slide hammer.

Toyota cv's can be real bastards. Sometimes you need to put them in a vice. You put the shaft in the jaws of the vice with the half the joint sitting hard against the end of the jaw. Hit the top as hard as you can and it should pop off (get someone to catch as they can fly some way)

Use this only if it won't come off in place

and wear safety glasses when doing the vice bash way.

even though I rarely wear then (never learn my lessons) Ive seen some nasty injuries from the occasional one shattering.

For toyota ones ive usually found it faster to take the shaft out and easier to remove the inner joint and slide the boot up the shaft.

edit: god knows why I thought you were just replacing the boot and not the cv as stated. Im going to bed.
Cant believe im still a member here.
