flywheel machined

Postby LEV_101 » Mon Oct 10, 2005 5:40 pm

does anybody know where i can get my flywheel machined somewhere in auckland thanks. car having funny problem i step on full gas and the rpm goes really fast to 5000ish rpm and stops there and when i change gears and step on gas it does the same thing. i think it would be the flywheel, if not can stop one help! if it was, which would be better. go get my silvertop flywheel machined or get a blacktop flywheel?

cheers

as said, the flywheel wont be the problem.
but...
if you do do the clutch you will want to get the face machined (especially if clutch has been slipping bad) most places that sell clutches can get them machined (excluding shops like repco) depending where you are in auckers tradeparts always give me excellent service.

Yup...I will vouch for Trade parts aswell.
If you get a clutch/pressure plate combo through them they normally give your flywheel a machining for free.

Trade parts, good deals on clutches, free machining, if u don't get clutch but want just machine the flywheels it is ~$60 from memory.

IMO. the heavy duty ones grip harder and faster (generally Brass button style)
whereas the regular ones are smoother and generally easier to use.
if its strictly for street go for the normal one but if you drive hard or intend to do some racing with it get the heavy duty one.

i got a heavy duty brass button option when i had mine done and it set me back a tidy $400 for the product
and, as im useless when it comes to that kinda thing i paid to have it put in costing just less than that much again

If you can't do the clutch yourself make sure you shop around for quotes, a variance of $200 isnt uncommon.
as said, if its just a road car a standard clutch will be fine...anythings better than a worn out one anyway!

sorry, perhaps I wrote it unclear (or read your reply the same). You may be looking at around $500ish for a clutch and fitted $100 either way...depending where you go. Years ago I was quoted $580 by toyota for a clutch on the ole ae92, but got it done for $300 elsewhere. Im not 100% up with the prices now as I do my own and my mates business ones for ~15-20$h
As far as damage goes, it most likely you will just loose all drive as the clutch burns out. It will mark the flywheel, but usually a good stonegrind will make it fine.
