big intercoolers hold more air volume
more air volume = ,opre stored pressure
more stored pressure = holds boost pressure longer when changing gear
this in turn can mean you have less lag
it a interesting arugment that time and time a gain is argued to death
gtr's have a massive intercooller a very little lag
iold school cars have lots of lag and most have no intercooler
theres more in it than i think you all give it credit for

Yeah you are right, I suppose that was a bit over the top. My apologies.
Aaah, mondays, eh?
sorry.

Its not quite so simple as you put it though...80's turbo's were nowhere near as advanced as they are now (duh) with some pretty rudimentary internals, and on some cars I've seen, very very mismatched turbine and compressor housings.
GT-R's also run two medium sized turbos on a high revving 2.6 litre motor, its gonna have more spoolability (new word, I made it up) than your average 2 litre innit.
Big intercoolers definately hold more volume, but that volume has to be filled first to reduce any lag between gears
