broke me gearbox i think

Postby MrBeef » Sun Oct 23, 2005 12:15 am

Yeh, i broke my gearbox me thinks.
I went to chop it down to 2nd round a corner, and i got a crunch when i changed down, my gearbox doesnt crunch. and then it was like it never disengaged. Just "neutral".

Also i only have up and down movement of the gearstick and not sidewards. I turned the car off, and tried to move the gear stick around, but it dont do anything, the clutch is lite as a feather, it starts still in a gear.

god damn.

gunna be expensive. damn c52 gearbox.
Any last words?

The clutch would only be light if something had gone wrong with it, gearbox failing should have no effect on it. (Unless something has gone horribly wrong and physically smashed the clutch to bits.)

So check the clutch is not the problem first before replacing the gearbox.

By sound of it the fork is broken inside or some bits from selector mechanisms, not a major (fork ~$30 from gear box rebuild place) if you are up to dismantling the box...

He says he cant move the gear stick sideways - defenetly fault with selector mechanism, and by fork I mean not cluch release fork, but shift fork inside the gearbox.

he possbly destroyed the clutch as well as he says that clutch is lite.

I agree with the clutch. However if a shifter fork is damaged then he should be able to complete a gate change, just not force the shifter into a position where it could engage a gear on that gate.
Is the C52 cable driven?

Your description of the fault isn't very complete. Is it disengaging the clutch? Can you select more than one gear? Can you gate change into something like reverse? Does it make noises on an attempted selection?

I cannot select any gear from the gearstick, however me and dad moved the actual selectors on the gearbox and i think we had it in neutral. No we cannot select any other gears as the "up and down" movement of the gearstick is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY loose.

So cannot choose another gear.

Clutch is not disengaging, as when i try start the car it is still in gear.

Does make a few gearbox noises when moving the stick
