6speed box install

Postby rallymazda » Tue Nov 01, 2005 5:17 pm

I currently have a 95 levin with a 5 speed box but I want to upgrade to a 6 speed box

the problem is some wreakers say I need to buy the driveshafts out of a 6 speed levin as they are different to the 5 speed ones, while other wreakers say they are the same

has anyone done this swap before?? or know whether I need to change the drive shafts

Get the GB. make sure you know a wrecker that has a DS(and you have the cash to get it), make a weekend of it, and borrow someone elses car incase you need to go get the DS.

Oh yeah, and document what you do so that others may profit from your (mis?)fortune of being the first.

I don't understand why you need new drive shafts, even if it is LSD box, it is Helical LSD, C160 will work fine with C5X shafts, as I am using C52 driveshafts in my C160 box...

Everything seems to be the same in my BZR too. Maybe the wrecker just trying to rip you off. :?

Just can't quite understand why you would pay $1,000 + for another gear and slightly closer ratios. O well

Bling factor?
The ability to say "I have one more than you"?
The "My gearbox is bigger than yours" syndrome?
The "because I can"?

I could go on, but I wont, bacause I have work to do, but you get the idea.

well, the reason why I did it is because I blew up my C52 in first place, so I've decided to go for something different (how many AE101 you see with 6 speed in them?)

Not many if any... because no AE101 drivers would add one to their car... being 1/2 the value of the car

well now there is atleast 1 :D , btw you will have problems with shifter, as 5 speed shifter does not have enough left to right movement, cheapest way is to go to pick a part and pull an AE101 20v shifter out as they are made out metal and can be modified (file it little bit to get it go properly in reverse), as far as I know AE111 are plastic and complete pain in the butt to modify, althou you might run in some other problems (the way wich cables are connected to plastic is different from metal)

not moved, mutilated... actually not mount but mount plate, need to bend/redrill some bits to fit... also if you are going to use 6 speed shifter, you will need 6 speed cables, they are different (atleast on 5 speed AE101)

Thought so.... and didn't they come out in about 1995 when the first ae111 coupes started being produced but the ae101 wagons were still in production with blacktop engines?

Yup.

You can get a 1996 on 6 speed BZT corolla wagon with a blacktop
in either AE101 or AE111. They were both in production at the same time.
