4AGE or worked 4K?

Postby streatracer » Sun Nov 06, 2005 5:08 pm

i have a kp60 with 4k and 5spd should i put a 4age in it or work the 4k? I dont mind spending the money on a 4age but as i am not really interested in huge power is it worth it? i am told a 4k with side drafts cam and head work can go pretty good but would a 4age go even better in (almost) standard trim? I am looking for 70-80rwkw

A 4age would use a fraction of the fuel that a worked 4k with sidedraughts would for a start.

A good condition stock 4age will go alot better than most worked K's, unless its a mega $$$ build.

If you have a stock 4age, say 130hp fly, and a 5K with 130hp fly.

The 4age has power for alot longer through the rev range
Is smoother
will use 1/43272th the gas
will look cooler
and probaly end up costing less
and be more reliable

The 5k will look more oldschool
and possbily sound tougher
but you wont need to $&#$% around with other shit like wiring, new g/box, certs, fuelling.

For example my old 5K made the same figures on the same dyno as a 4AGE starlet, but my KE30 on the road was no where near as fast as that was.

SR20DETS have been done platy of times into old toyotas, a bit more work than a normal 4AGE swap, and why bother when you only want 70-80rwkw.

Stay old school with the 5K. Or if you've got time to waste you could go 7K hunting... then turbo it and so on and so on...

Or a 3t. easy to fit and they go fairly hard with a bit of work. Super cheap to buy to.

I've heard the old suziki 1300 (double overhead cam) goes well in a starlet. The engines come in barinas I think.

Should be economical and light.

Not cheap though by the time you adapt a gearbox.

whats the problem?
4age = win
more power, cheaper, more reliability, more economy.
k series = old slow boat anchor

You might want to check a few race tracks before you say that. There are a few putting down some pretty respectable times on not very large budgets.

that is true.
but how much of that is due to the engine and not suspension etc?
and in relation to a 4age?

and i was being a bit of a smart arse there :P

but imo a 4age is a better choice for a road car.
plus to get about 100hp at the wheels liek hes after, its going to be a fairly warm k engine....

I'd go with the 4AGE.

Another reason to add to the already mentioned things is the availability of

A) Parts from wreckers

and

3) Super Happy Fast aftermarket parts from Nihongo V(^_^)
