Thats awesome... is it intercooled? I couldn't see any clues in the engine bay pic. I wonder how much abuse the internals can take too? I mean a 4A-GZE will take pretty much all that you can throw at it...

Looking at the engine bay pic, they seem to have mounted the supercharger at the front underneath the intake manifold. You can see air filter, then the plastic tubing to the throttle body, then there's a section of cast aluminium pipe, then the supercharger intake, and just behind the supercharger intake you can see the super charger outlet connected to what I think is the intake manifold which has got "compressor" embossed on it. Nor can I tell if there's a ABV (air bypass valve) to bypass the supercharger.

There's two reasons why I think there's no intercooler:

Given that the power has increased from 189BHP to 215 BHP (26HP), an increase of 14% and torque goes from 180NM to 215NM (and increase of 19%), compared with the 16V 4AGE in the AE92 developed 140 PS peak, the AE92 4AGZE was 165PS, a power increase of 18%, and 15kgcm of torque vs 21kgcm torque, a torque increase of 40% (!) - I'd say that this is a bolted-on supercharger that's not doing much boost (say a SC12 running at the same revs as the engine) to minmise compression heating, running no intercooler.

An with only 250 being made, I doubt they've done much other than bolted the SC on...

But still, yummy.

Man that thing looks awesome! They haven't forgotten how to make good cars. Now all they have to do is bring back the 86

Nice.

Didn't Toyota NZ make a small run of s/c Camry's in the last three or four years too?

wonder what the comp ratio is.... 11.5:1 + s/c - i/c = upset engine.

Where did you get that cr from? I highly doubt anyone would try that without any significant cooling.

Only 250 right-hand drive Corolla Compressor models are being made available in the UK,

UK maybe.... but what about for the rest of the world?

http://trdparts.jp/english/parts_engine-2zz-ge.html (see right side of page)

trd wrote:By changing the shape of the piston head, the high compression ratio (11.5) of the 2ZZ-GE engine has been improved even further to 13.0. This high compression ratio improves torque and response throughout the entire range.

The engine is a 2zz-ge, and we can tell that by the distint "VVTL-I" on the rocker / cam cover.

obviously they did try it :D

Thank you Captain Obvious

I was under the impression that the car had a standard 2ZZ-GE with a charger bolted on the side.

You sure those pistons go with that engine? All you've done is linked to a page of TRD high compression pistons for the 2ZZ-GE. Doesn't say anything on that page about using them with the Compressor engine (please correct me if I'm missing something there ... ).

The Corolla Compressor isn't listed in the "applicable cars" table at the bottom of the TRD page.

It was the only site i could find quickly about what their stock compression is...

Stock 2zz-ge = 11.5:1

With those TRD pistons, it rises to 13:1 (haha, then supercharge it :D).

Hey, im not just catering for you here, some people dont know what a 2zz is, its not tech discussion after all :).

Id say the engine is stock, with a charger bolted to it, with timing retarded, and special bits and peices added in just incase..... or who knows, they might have gone and replaced bloody everything... we just dont know. So uh... what was your question again?

either way, cool car :). I want one.

Compressor? Don't they know its spelt with a K? Jeeeeeez. They could learn a thing or two from the Germans ;)

Wonder what S/C they're using? Looks like a roots type. SC12?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Your post sounded like you were trying to say they were supercharging a 13:1 CR engine. Just try keep your links relevant to the subject, and you'll be fine ;)

Yes it is a cool car 8)
