Depends on what type of launch you are getting at the moment. It's going to be pretty much a "suck it and see" approach. I offer the following advice with the proviso that, apart from a few passes on a TZ250 race bike, I've never done any drag racing.

If it's bogging down then I'd set the launch RPM to 500-1000rpm above peak torque, and set the deactivate value < 10 (on the Caldina each VSS pulse = 1/4 wheel rotation ~ approx 0.5m at 100% traction).

If you're traction limited then I'd set it to just below peak torque and set the deactivate value high.

If you're getting a smooth launch then setting it slightly above peak torque and a medium deactivate value.

For the ignition retard value, I would start at -10 and see how fast the boost builds. If you were traction limited before you may want less boost so a value of -5 might be more appropriate.

Bear in mind that you should now have boost at launch so what may have been a smooth launch will now be traction limited.

That is where the deactivate point comes into play. Basically it acts as traction control so that you can't rev any higher than that setting until you've rotated the wheels enough times, set it to a higher value to control wheelspin off the line, lower value if you're not spinning the wheels.

For now I wouldn't bother with power shifting, it's not really good for the drivetrain and is probably worth a lot less than getting the launch correct.

I see the 13.2 in the race, but how come the qualifying sheet lists you as 12.628 @ 177.6km/h? :?

I still think its do to with the wrong air intake temp reading eh :?
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Just noticed they've got you twice in the results too :? Made it to the third round, but red lighted. Wonder if you get the points for both

Al - hush. An MR2 is a lot different to racing a heavy 4WD.

To put it into perspective - My car weighs 1500kg + with me in it. 16psi, an angry launch and it ran a 12.6, with a 1.7 60ft. The caldina is very similar in power and weight - you lot just need to learn to drive it properly. Even my current VR4 ran a 13.0 @ 105 with me coasting across the line after blowing a hose off midway through 4th, thats even on big HEAVY 18" wheels as well.

Al was right with one thing though - limiter launches do help if your feeling especially sadistic. Netted me consistent 1.7 60fts, every time. Normally I go with flooring it on the first orange (from idle), the dropping the clutch on the last one. Means full boost, around 6000rpm, and a rapid whale.

Try it.

How many what?

I've only had one decent breakage, and that was a centre diff with 180,000km worth of thrashing on it. Unfotunately it also took out the gearbox it lived inside. Such is life.

No point drag racing if you're not going to try and get the best out of the car, it would be like going in a running race and just jogging for fear of an injury.
