Brakes - AE111

Postby gurutasker » Tue Nov 15, 2005 8:21 pm

Well...yet another problem, the world is full of them  (This time it's a little more complicated than just gas tho...)

My brake pedal travels right to the floor before it gets any decent stopping power, so I bled the brakes and checked around a bit, got the pedal up to a nice tight position again.

However, resting my foot tight on the brake, as soon as i start the car it goes to the floor again.

I was thinking possibly a problem with the master cylinder? If so... anyone know how much approximately it would cost for a replacement? (Gonna start ringing around for prices ;) )

Cheers

Cant tell you a price but suggest you give Chris a call at Mossrax, there on belfast street at the back of the basin reserve behind the McDonalds.

Was the fluid level in the Mast/Resevoir low? Did you notice any fluid around the Booster? Bleed the hydraulics again, clamp all the brake hoses and start car with ya foot on brake if the pedal. If it sinks then yes the Master cyl is at fault, Either externally leaking onto the Booster or internally bypassing. Id recommend poping into a local garage either Cmoores or Jonesys to confirm before you folk out the dosh.

Try Head toyota wreckers, U Save, NZ Car Parts, CPA spares for 2nd hand parts or if you want it rekitted best bet would be Contour Brakes AutoSafe in Waterloo or Auto Brake and Clutch in City.

Hope this helps
