Engine mounts

Postby z|gen » Sun Nov 20, 2005 6:29 pm

hey,
have a slight problem with one of the engine mounts in my starlet.

is it possible and easily done to remove the existing one - on the strut tower and move it about 20cm across onto the chassis rail?

or will it be easier to make a new mount on the rail?

im not worried about getting certs

Im guessing you are putting a 4AG in it. Try get a mount of an AE** FWD, Im not sure how it fits in an EP Starlet but it was easier to do that than move the old one in my old EE90.

yup, has a 4age in it,

gbox mount bolts in, the mount on the inlet side at the bottom bolts in, only problem im having is with the mount at the cam gear side is out by about 20cm.

using ae82 brackets, i think i might have to get a custom mount made up.

unfortunatly i cant get pics. but the 4age has the mount pretty much central - then one on the gearbox - central, the gearbox one goes in fine. the but the one on the engine is out - the exsisting starlet mount is on the strut tower, the corolla one is on the chassis rail.

Yeah, I know exactly the problem you are having, same deal in the EE90. How does the AE82 mount line up when sitting on the chassis rail? AFAIK you should be able to weld it on and go.

lines up fine..

hence the this thread.. about whether it would be easier to weld in new brackets or modify the exsisting.

anyone know what size steel to use?

Im a bit confused as to what you are trying to acheive here, but why not just weld the AE82 bracket to the chassis rail and be done with it?

Or am I missing something here?
