3TGTE - Detontation under load

Postby DIRTYDX » Mon Nov 21, 2005 9:05 pm

Just finished putting a 3tgte in my KE36 and having some boost issues, once she get to around 4500/5000 rpm she seems to start pinging/violent jerking, with my little knowledge im putting this down to her leaning out, when this happens shes showing around 7.8 psi (standard boost for a factory 3T) and then when you change gear she goes up to 10psi before quickly dropping back to 0 so i dont think shes overboosting, anybody had this problem before or know anybody i could get hold off that could help me out,im using the standard ecu/knock computers and the factory pressure switches (overboost/fuel enrich)

Yea was next thing to check on my list, fuel setup wise i think im alright,im using 3/8'' from a 96 octane fulled tank in2 a standard ST142 corona fuelpump then 5/16'' straight to the fuelrail with a steel bodied inline filter along the way and just using the standard KE36 1/4'' line as a return, similiar setup to yours?

Sure its a fuel issue and not an ignition problem? That can cause the jerking / backfiring your describing.

sounds very similar to problems iv incountered
in two conversions iv done with 3tgte"s
they have a tendancy to blow out the spark
if the spark plugs are gapped at more than .8
-regaping made a huge differance on both cars

Phrogmodz: Yea im using brand new NGK BP7ES plugs and the gap is around 0.7 mm..do they sound like the sort of plug i should be using? What sort of symptoms were your 3tgtes having when u had trouble

Ako: By 'igniton problems' what should i be checking for, shes getting spark and she runs mint all the way up till around 4500 rpm + idles fine, wat else should i check for ??

Any other ideas people? im picking up a gauge tommorrow nite so checking fuel pressures next on the list

both the ta22 and the ke35 had identical symptoms
missing under load on boost and throwing unburnt
fuel out the back (black smoke).
id recheck the gaps and set to .8
then resistance check the leads-sounds like somthings
breaking down under load.
