Whats next?

Postby supraman_nz » Wed Nov 23, 2005 4:15 pm

Was just having a read of the new autocar mag , and there was an artical on the release of the Bugatti Veyron.

It got me thinking , whats next ? Will there soon be cars that do 450km + or even more? Not too long back the triple ton was pretty significant and i wonder if people ever thought that cars would ever go any faster.

The Veyron is limited to 406km because of tires , so does that mean all thats stopping it being even more faster is just new tires to be invented to withstand that speed and also be useful at 50kmph?

Your thoughts?

My money says that the veyron will never be topped....

Its just rediculous, can you even really use a car with that much power?

I reckon the Veyron will eventually get topped , might be a decade or two , and have rein like the old Mc F1. Or the Veyron could even top its own record. aparently it could produce ahole lot more power ( something like 2000hp) but has been limited due to cooling and tires and the like. Could just be time till someone invents better tires and cooling.

better tyres are out there, they just aren't intended for road use.
the engine has almost identical specs to 4x 3sgte's (same bore*stroke, power etc). Although obviously cooling and crankshaft strength would be major concerns, I imagine that if the crankshaft could hold it, you could probably get over 1500hp without too much fuss from it. Infact I wonder how raising boost a few psi would increase power? Of course then we're not talking about production cars anymore, but modified ones...

people said the mclaren would never be topped, but it has, so who knows...

this reminds me of a good joke :D

Bill Gates and the president of General Motors have met for lunch, and Bill is going on and on about computer technology. "If automotive technology had kept pace with computer technology over the past few decades, you would now be driving a V-32 instead of a V-8, and it would have a top speed of 10,000 miles per hour," says Gates. "Or, you could have an economy car that weighs 30 pounds and gets a thousand miles to a gallon of gas. In either case, the sticker price of a new car would be less than $50. Why haven't you guys kept up?"
The president of GM smiles and says, "Because the federal government won't let us build cars that crash four times a day."
Anger is seldom without argument but seldom with a good one.

Only 406km/h, what a ripoff. That's it, I'm cancelling my order

Maybe I'll just buy a Callaway V16 and fit it to the MR2 instead 8O

Nah, piece of cake to fit it, just use drop gears and undersling the gearbox below the rear bank.

Besides it's not as big as it looks, it's about 900mm long, 550mm wide, 480mm high and only weighs 145kgs.

I don't know about that, just add a few CT20B's and you'd be up to 1200hp, not sure about the MR2's high speed handling characteristics though 8O

Hmm lets see that'd be 4x1000cc, too hard for me to work out

Actually I think you can bore them to about 1250cc each, so maybe 5 litres is possible.

Yeah it's 80 valves. Not sure but I think the cams might be modified Yamaha items with a common drive in the centre. Anyway I don't think aftermarket cams would be needed.

is it actually 4 of the yamaha engines, or is it 4 heads and a custom block?
in the latest racecar engineering there is a v8 that's based on two 1000cc I4 yamaha engines (probably the same one as above) with a custom crankcase. Only weighs 70kg and makes up to 400hp from the 2.4L version
