my first guess would be to check the accessory belt(s) are tight enough

I had a similar sound on my old laser. It was the cam belt tensioner. It was cocked off a tiny bit so when the engine revs were high enough the cambelt 'walked' sideways and rubbed the plastic cover.

Mate, it could be any number of things, from a squeaky fanbelt, to a cambelt tensioner. No point waiting for guys on here to guess your problem, take it to a mechanic, and get them to have a look.
