Gen 5 3sgte..... ?!?

Postby RomanV » Tue Dec 06, 2005 12:52 pm

While browsing fasterthanjesus.net, I noticed that mention is made of a gen 5 3sgte engine, available in the st265 caldina. 8O

Which is the first time Ive heard of such a thing!

Does anyone have any more info/specs/rumours/gossip on this? I am interested to know.

aside from the ST246 being a LEV
and according to
http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/toyota/caldina/

the st246 has centre injection (the st215 may do as well fifno!)

but I think its pretty much the same engine.

hey warwick, do you have pictures of parts of the engine from the EPC?
I would love to see the injector set up, especially since it's supposedly central injection (single point?)

also does it use the same one piece manifold/exhaust housing as the st215?

Theres a GT Four Caldina in the work carpark. Looks ok ... nothing special. Prefer ST215s.

st215 doesn't have central injection
and as warwick said, different crank and pistons, and according to some websites it has VVT-i, so it's no more the same engine than say a red top 4age vs silvertop

single point? wtf are you smoking :P

they apear to have a longer injector, so maybe the moved the nozzle closer to the valve?
the heads are exactly the same part number.....

epc pics are not the best....

weird, I wonder why they call it central injection then? I've seen it on a few websites.

the reason I wondered if it was single point injected is that 4S-Fi's were badged as "Central Injection" (or 16v Ci), and they had a single injector in the throttle body - I thought central injection must have meant it was injected in the middle of the airstream

maybe this motor has the injectors positioned so it injects right in the middle of the port or something??

also can you confirm whether it was vvt-i or not?

thanks :)

turbo is a different part number, but is the same, the manifold section is a bit different, has an extra lug where to help with the warping/cracking problem the 215 has. the 215 turbo supercedes to the 246 turbo and we'v replaced about 4 in nelson alone. and if sold about 15 nation wide 8O

If anybody wants any pics or for me to look at something and try to work it out I have just taken delivery of a ST246.

Its only been in my garage for 3 days so I havn't had a real good look at it so far but I will be poking and proding soon.

Unfortunatly it is a signature class so I can't f%&k around with it to much until the warrenty runs out... 3 days down 727 to go.
