What sub would you reccommend for under $200

Postby ollieboy » Fri Dec 16, 2005 1:13 am

I have a friend who got offered these subs the other day, I had a look at the subs and they were my old ones and they are crap and one had a burnt voice coil when I sold it so it made a nice sound. :)

I told my friend not to buy the subs and I was wondering what you guys reckon he should buy, hes got a sound stream amp that is 260WRMS @ 4 Ohms. I was looking for a sub for him for under $200 but i am really biased and head towards Rockford Fosgate, and besides, I got the last one PI had in NZ for a while.

Yeah so what would you reckon?

I've run Pioneer subs in the past and found them to be really good, took my abuse. Can usually get them thru PI for less than $200

Yea i have one myself. Wicked sound for the price. Coming from a red Sony sub it was a massive improvment. Really nice, Hits the notes sweet compared to other subs my mates have. (Pioneer, Kenwood and Panasonic)

The RE and the DD subs would have to be the best . I think the DD would be a lil out of that price range. I put a 12inch RE strater sub in my girlfriends car and it goes great. The DVC will mean you can load it down to two ohms and get it really cranking. I'm pretty sure you can get them for $200.00

Go for the RE for sound quality and the DD for loudness.

I can do you RE 12's for $199 each
RF p1 12's for $149 each
RF p2 12's for $199 each

My pick of the bunch is the RE's. Go super hard for the money.

I wouldnt bother. Last time i went to paul money i quoted my budget for a sub. They offered a sub slightly over my budget, which was cool. Then said 'hey we can do you a deal on that'. They went away, came back and offered me the sub with the box 'Worth $200 alone ZOMG' (yeah right, i could make a sealed carpeted box to specs like that for $50) for $150 more than my budgeted price and more than the original price of the sub itself. I slowly backed out and left for PI, got myself a kicker sub, built the box and had no probs.
Couple that with what appeared to be a small product range and you have a very un-inspiring experience.

Still, others have had glad experiences, and i did notice a few good deals for head units and the like.

FWIW I've had nothing but good experiences with Paul Money.

I hate buying from shops though, annoying know-it-all salespeople who don't know shit make me want to kill.

The RE subs are pretty good and for the price of an RE RE then its well worth it :D
also, if you are in Aucks then go see Andrew and Ivan at BASS (Botany Autosound and Security) or Steve at Hotwire Auto Electrical - they'll sort you out and they know their stuff :)
