Um

Axle stands aren't really something you normally have issues with. I have those supercheap ones, haven't had a car fall on me yet.

Axle stands are something that will need to meet safety requirements. Should have some ISO or NZ/AUS Safety approval on the packaging.

Dont think they can be legally be sold otherwise...

I have the super cheap ones, they seem alright, i hardly ever go under the car at my house though.

But id get more sturdy ones if i could. My mate has some pretty chunky ones that use a thread to wind up and down rather than that klanking thing.

Also the spot welds on the suepr cheap axel stands dont look like the strongest joints.

Its your saftey man, i wouldnt skimp. I know a guy who died because his daughter jumped into the car not knowing he was there and a axel stand failed. Happened around a year ago from now :?

i don't know why you all bother with axle stands, I mean what's wrong with using a pile of pallets? Much cheaper :)

That picture still cracks me up... And it REALLY looks like if you gave it a nudge up at the back, it would fall flat on its face!

Just leave it on the scissor jack. It will be sweet!

Nah, I have the ones from Repco, and I have done a lot of hammering and banging and shaking of cars on them, and they are as sturdy as if I had it on the ground

hmmm, i dunno about the supercheap ones, i've noticed a couple of times this year they have been recalling them, so if i had some i would get it checked out as it'd suck to have a car fall on you.

we use axle stands with 'that klanking thing' at work to hold the towtruck up while we work on it.
they're probably not repco/supercheap stands tho (as we get stuff cheaper elsewhere)
i use repco ones at home, no problems so far.
like someone already mentioned, since they have to meet certain standards, chances are they're not a whole lot different to other brands.
as long as you take note of the load they're rated at and dont exceed it, they will be fine

Exactly 8) if they dont meet the standards = no sell, simple as that. I currently have the Capri sitting on stands in Taranaki, got em from Repco I think, havent had a problem with them at all 8)

I got both Repco and Supercheap ones, they see sturdy enough.

The repco ones held the uno up while I did the engine swap on it.

it dosn't matter a pinch of poo how expensive/ what standard they are built to, if you don't have the car evenly supported by them, any axle stand can injure/kill you. just becuase they appear to be flimsy looking it dosn't mean that they are, it is a vertical load they are supporting, nothing more.

anyone seen any of the prices lately?
i need another set, as a block of wood and a scissor jack are holding up the rear of my wreck (scissor jack has fallen over multiple times but the chassis is stiff enough to not move aven with me clambering around inside the shell!) 8O
