Postby KarlGti » Wed Dec 21, 2005 12:35 pm

Bought this as a run around while i look for something to replace the gti but its starting to grow on me...thinking i might keep it. Who else has one of these on TS?

Nice one. They're getting harder to find now, as they tended to rust like a beast. I have the AE92 GT Sedan, and think it's a great little car for the money.

Where did you score your 82 from?

Was on trademe. Got it from a guy over in wadestown. Has quite a bit of surface rust mostly from stone chips but only 120,000kms on the clock and the interior is in better condition than i've ever seen on any ae82. Don't know if those k's are genuine but i have the ownership history from 1996 when it was imported with 60,000kms on it.

Definately going to need some paint work and some new shocks, handles like a bus compared to the old gti

Springs and shocks make a world of difference. Then if you want mega instant turn in from 'Nam, then get a whiteline rear anti roll bar.

Its going in to get the rust sorted out after christmas, then suspension is next on the list. Not too sure what to get as far as shocks and springs go but definately will be looking at that whiteline anti roll bar. Heard alot of mixed feelings about king springs and munroe shocks. May look into getting KYB and jamex but i don't really know...will do a bit more research. If i'm going to spend some money on this car i need to get a setup that will work well

I have King + KYB and that's been fine for me, no worries at all. I would probably be looking at TRD + KYB for my next car. KYB shocks are great for the money involved.

Revhead can get you all the bits and pieces at a friendly price, all you need to do is offer him a goat as part payment ;)

I had Jamex in my AE82 GT back, um, 7 years ago. They were okay for road use, but absolute rubbish for competition use. Far far far far far too soft. Comfortable for road, but I wouldn't touch them again.

Bring the sedan along to a TS Thursday :)

KYB shocks put up with a lot , and got trike?

Cheers for the info, cool photos also. Won't be able to get along tomorrow but hopefully next thurs. Haven't been to one for a good year or so. I had kings in the old car and they were reasonably hard considering it still had the factory wheels on it. Only problem was it it had cheap munroes in it which didn't last that long, especially the back ones for some reason.

I would give KYB a go. I've had them in three competition cars so far, and haven't killed one. They're not unkillable, as a friend of mine seriously killed some in his Starlet :) But in my opinion they are good bang for buck, with the major trade off being that they are relatively hard riding at low speeds.

I'm not at the meet this week either :) Maybe catch you next one though.
