Caldina front components install stage 1 (56k? hahaha)

Speakers are some pioneer things I picked up off trademe:

Factory fronts - not bad at all, plastic cone, about 5 1/2" - note they're f'n rivited into place..

Factory tweets - this one never worked.. (sorry camera wouldn't focus)

When removing caldina door trim, the two (BASTARD) tabs indicated are why you have difficulty with the handle surround..

Door trim in unmodified form - there is a raised ring around the 'grille', and note the handy spot for mounting a crossover

Removed the raised ring with craft-knife (it does interfere with the speaker once installed)

Modified the white thingy to mount crossover as shown

After mounting the woofer, discovered it interferes with the window, so take two (one for each side) cookie-time buckets..

Voila - one perfect size 5mm spacer

:D:D

Finished install - tweets mounted in factory location with hotglue

Loom for the speakers is plugged into factory wiring for now, until I get amp racks designed/created/etc to run them.

With the door trim back on, it looks completely factory, so nothing to show, but it sounds fantastic, even just off the head unit with no deadening in the doors

Stage 2 of the install will include deadening the doors, blocking off the access holes and running the wiring so I can run the fronts off the amps.

I also got my hands on some 6X9's but looking at the back doode there is no way in hell they are going to fit in there huh lol.

when i mounted my alpines in the front doors, i didnt need to cut the guard thingee off that you did

Did you need spacers? I didn't cut it off initially, the speaker had a bit of clearance until I actually turned them on, and they started bumping the ring when I turned the stereo up.

na no spacers, mine fitted in mint and ive had it cranking with no cone vs door card action!
i was going to do photos, but i was feeling lazy when i did it.. sorry!
plus id actually have to get round to sorting out a hosting thingee

finally got around to doing this yesterday , was pretty fiddly ( espically those $&#$% door tabs ) but all went in well and sounds awesome.

I had to remove the factory mounting because my tweeters were pretty large but with abit of altering with a craft knife I was able to get them to fit perfectly .... I used different wires cause my factory ones wernt long enough so I had to cut the clovering plastic and tape it up again so it looks pretty ghetto but you dont drive around with the door pannels off eh!

Now for a new head unit , I still have the factory one with the TV / GPS and 12 disk stacker so I wont be replacing that till I can afford something flash. Might even do the car pc thing , I have the parts allready.

Hahah, this is excatly what i done, except i made mdf spacers, and had to make two so 10mm

the basket was too big for the hole if i used a 5mm spacer , haha snwtoy, MINE ARE BIGGER THAN YOURS!!!! haha, and yeah i had to take out that raised ring in the door card too...

Sounds good tho...

I have an 03 Corolla with those same damn riveted speakers in the front doors - what are the tricks to getting them out? I have Alpine 6.5" components to go in, so I'm expecting some playing with spacers eeek.

Just have to drill the buggers out, the rivets are pretty soft.

I passed your car just outside of otaki a few days ago ... well you were heading south and I was heading north.

I just banged the rivets out with a hammer and a screwdriver , they came out pretty easy.

Today I decided to stick my 6X9's in , so here are my nearly finshed diy speaker mountings heh

yhea it works with the TV / GPS screen ... the TV is NTSC which dosent work and I only have a japan map cd so the GPS dosent work either , ill probally be taking it out shortly and replacing it with an LCD touch screen to run my car pc
