Box under passenger seat?
It's an amp that only works with the factory headunit.
If you have an aftermarket headunit you can remove the amp.
If you do have the factory headunit and it works... you are lucky!
Lucky that the amp hasn't blown up yet! (some components on the circuit board fail and turn into small lumps of charcoal).
Sadly the amps aren't very reliable now that they are more than 10 years old. Very difficult to find another factory amp that works (been there done that!).

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

I've made it working with aftermarket head unit with RCAs outputs (also possible to use the speaker outputs)... I've hacked into amp loom and found the shielded line inputs and remote (line inputs are same colour code as speaker wires, but they are much thinner)... the only reason why I used it at that time because the amp in head unit was fried... it is not bad as amp but powerwise is about the same as internal amp in average head unit.

There is an amp and some noise filter box thing under there. The noise filter is only there because its a cheap and shitty amp. When I took my car to get its new head unit put in, they had to re wire it to bypass the amp. An aftermarket head unit is at say around 45W per channel and does not need that amp any more, it was only there to power the again crappy factory head unit which probably made around 5W per channel.

Anyway ken... what you doing playing with that old amp in my car... Well the car now has a new head unit, new brakes, some tints, some tlc and run perfectly, hope your race car is going well.

could be wrong but arent they pre-amps?

Just tiny amps ussually 33 by 2 channel amps because the factory head units are so retarded that they need to have the sound level beefed up a bit! also a security measure as far as i was aware.. ie if you steal the factory head unit and fail to take the pre amps, when you wire it into another car it detonates a small thermo nuclear charge and kills anything in a 2kilometre radius....
The list so far
Te71, Ae82, Ke70x2, Mx73x2, Ga61, Gx61, Ra63, Aa63, Ae70, Ae85, Ke25, Ke30, Ke36, Gz10x2, Hb11, Ta40, Ma45......

Hi - yeah I must have tracked down about 4 factory amps when I used to own your GTZ. I think 2 of them worked for a couple of months and then blew up... fixed one (replaced the capacitors) but something else died in it...
Just worked out where the pic of your car came from :) I remember taking it, got up early on a cold Taupo morning to catch some of the sunrise, cool.
I'm glad it went to a good home.
Racecar is good, now has a 3sge gen3 in it!

Eh? Quoted figures are 50-52w per channel max, 60w for the P1Y...you're talking RMS values there.
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!
