5efe is in Cynoses, Corsas, Corolla IIs, etc, although some of the Cynoses had the 5efhe high compression motor.
My experience of the 5efe in my Corsa - the original motor was fairly good, the Corsa is reasonably light and the car was pretty comparable in performance to an AE82 with basic mods, although the low end and mid range is pretty average, it revved well and picked up power slightly when you rang it out.
The replacement engine (after the old one killed the bearings) which was out of an ee106 corolla wagon doesn't seem to be as good, doesn't pick up in higher revs like the old one, not really sure why, might have different cams or something.
With a turbo it would be a different story though, similar to a 4e-fte but the increased stroke should give it better spool up and better low end torque.
