Supposed to give less flex, so you're not wasting torque twisting the mounts, it goes through the driveline.

But yeah, shakes the shit out of your car...used to be a rotor DX in pram with solid mounts, 13B bridgey + solid mounts = nasty 8O

OMG so shiny!

is that the hardest possible mount without going solid?

you can get different hardnesses of urethane, but the harder ones (around 80 Shore) are pretty rigid I believe

FWIW I heard most exotic cars tend to be solid mounted - I guess on boxers, v8s, v10s, v12s etc the engine runs with a lot less vibration than an inline 4 banger

Solid mounting.
Used where the engine/gearbox combo is used as part of the car structure, either as a stressed part of the chassis or some or all the the suspension bolts to it.
Sometime you will see it in a track raced (ex) road car. I've seen a few cracked chassis rails where the engine was bolted to... also I've heard of blocks and gearbox casings being broken when the car hit something.
There are problems with big horsepower engines twisting in their flexible mounts - Also I think some of the drifter boys bolt a shock absorber between the engine and the body in the engine bay so the engine doesn't move around as much.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

it can also help sharpen the shift. meant to work pretty well on aw11s.

for a track car id go with some urathane mounts. even new stock ones with the gaps flled with urathane is a good way to go.

for a daily driver some TRD mounts would be the one

My brothers rally car runs urathane mounts and it is rattley as hell, I would hate to drive a solid mounted car, in anything but competition.
I love deadlines. I like the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.

we rigid mounted the the Starlet, was the easiet way to put a 4ag in it without making engine mounts for it. i wouldn't even consider doing a road car though.....too bloody harsh.
I've been a bad bad boy. I should read the rules and behave before I get spanked by an admin

The 20V in my DX is solid mounted.
It has the standard 4AGE RWD mounts, but they are welded across the corners from one side of the rubber to the other.
It's not actually too harsh.

The team that dad was with in australia did a lot of testing with mounts in their V8 supercar.
You loose drive through the flex in the engine mounts to the amount of about 0.001 sec per gearchange (upshifts only)
so at 10 upshift gearchanges per lap that's 0.01 sec per lap, or about 5 spots on the grid.

I have Urethane 2 mounts on the MR2, it's bit scary on high RPM, feels as if the car's gonna explode, but rather it's far from truth.

It's okay for daily drive, but it doesn't impress the ladies tho :(

I had a urethane mounts made up to go on my old Swift Gti (because I couldn't get factory ones), and it was extremely unpleasant. Noisy as hell inside, and lots of bad vibrations. Horrible for a daily driver

Bunderson (pictured left) engine is solid mounted. To be quite honest I don't notice it. Mind you I consider a two foot deep hole taken at 100kph a stutter.

i made nearlysolid engine mounts when i put a 3sgteintomy ke20. i used the front swingarms from a mr2?(cant quite remember) they are cast iron, ground them flat and drilled some hills, bolted to the bolt, then made mounts off the x-member for them to bolt to. engine had 5mm max of movement, you could never realy see the engine movein engine bay, only thing was i keeped splitting the fuel tank cause the car kept twisting. when i crashed at taupo, only the dizzy broke, and thats cause it stuck throught the firewall when i did the conversion. but i didnt notice any vibration or anything. im currrently solid mounting my 1jzgte in my chaser, but this will be all soild steel.
