Probably not a good idea in this case. You're dealing with measurements in the 0.0001" area, and most micrometers lose accuracy at that point. Even with an accurate mic it takes a skilled operator to use it. I've got equipment that accurate, but I never let it out of my sight, and let few others use it as it's easily damaged if not used correctly, and to replace it I would have to start selling body parts![]()
Cheaper equipment should be ok for gross errors in shell size or alignment, or if you just want to see if everything is in the right ballpark though (0.001").
