Im going into work today, it sounds like Ive got some more saving up to do. :?

Probably not a good idea in this case. You're dealing with measurements in the 0.0001" area, and most micrometers lose accuracy at that point. Even with an accurate mic it takes a skilled operator to use it. I've got equipment that accurate, but I never let it out of my sight, and let few others use it as it's easily damaged if not used correctly, and to replace it I would have to start selling body parts :o

Cheaper equipment should be ok for gross errors in shell size or alignment, or if you just want to see if everything is in the right ballpark though (0.001").

Why would I want to do that?

It makes less HP than the engine that I'm reassembling...

That one is only a 200hp version (despite what he says) And since it is from an auto, doesnt come with the extra goodies that make the blacktop better than the redtop.

And there's also the fact that it wont fit in an MR2, and it doesnt look as cool. :twisted:

as do i
had i of realised i could have bought some proper measurment tools up with me

we tried switching the shells
trided them in differnt journals (on using 2 at any time
and swaped between the 3's and the 4's

im back up again next week david if need be ill bring my digital mic's and internal bore guage

but in reality even with a simple interal tele guage you will be able to tell if the journal is out of round

it is quite clear withou putting the caps on that the crank is nipping up
relidtiscally were probably only talking .005 interfeance

Yep, I'll still be pestering Lynn in the morning. :D

However, taking it to him will be a last resort I think.
He does great work, but he is in such high demand, that it takes forever and a day to get anything done.

Well, thats what Ive heard too.

But His prices were reasonable for what I got done IMO.

More expensive than other places, but its worth knowing that it got done right, and its worth the extra $$$ for all of the experience that him and his cronies have with 3sg(t)e's, in my opinion.

He was more than helpful, patiently answered all of my stupid questions, and put up with more "is it done yet?" "Is it done yet?" than most people could take. :twisted:

However, I suppose it is worth waiting to get it done right, than get it done half assed, and completely blow up my engine.

Well I gave Lynn a call this morning, and he sounded very surprised.

He said I should be able to bring it in tomorrow, for him to have a look at.

Hopefully it wont be anything too major!
