Postby shihad » Thu Feb 02, 2006 7:38 pm

My m8 is thinking of selling his mr2 he doesnt know what price to sell it at .Just wondering how much you guys think its worth. Here are the details
red 1990 mr2 auto
engine is a 2 litre non turbo he was told its got a 98 engine in it and has seen other 1990 mr2 engines and they dont look the same so we presume that it is a 98 engine.
engine has unknown kms.body done 180 odd km
A T bodykit from veilside (i think this correct)
rear spoiler
15inch mags
targa top model
leather interior.
car in gud nick gets washed once a week

Personally I think it's only worth 4-5 thou if you're lucky since it's high k's.

I've seen worse ones sell at a dealers for more, but private sale is always different.

Plus, even though it has a motor from a 98 (gen 3) it will always be a high km gen 1 sw20.

Try advertising in womans weekly and you might get good money for it :P

got pic of engine bay?

the fact that its auto for a start brings the price down, if you advertised a standard red mr2 with 180,000+k's and thats auto i wouldnt expect to get more than 4500 if your lucky, but yes, have you got pics of the engine bay, one of us will be able to tell you what engine it has.
I had vtax :(

question is whether it really is a 98 engine (AFAIK that makes it a Beams one).
If it is, then maybe $5K, if it's not then more like $3K

I'm no expert, but I believe Adam drives a car that would suggest we did get NZ new MR2s  They did however get the 3S-GE - in the UK they got some with 3S-FE's and in the states they had the 5S, so f*ck knows what options we might have got.

Maybe it's a 4age?

Well it could have a 1998 motor in it; but not from an SW20.

It could be anything, if it has indeed had a swap.

Could be a 3sfe. *shudder*
Its definitely not a beams then, you'd know if it was. It would look like this if it was.

Some NZ new SW20s came with 3SFEs, (Redmists dad had one IIRC?) But not very many, thank christ. :)

Personally, I think you'd be lucky to get 3 grand for it, and that would be if it is in good nick.

I got a manual gen 1 NA with 160,000kms on the clock for $3800.....

More than 2 years ago. 8)

If the engine looks a bit like this it could be a 3S-GE:

(This is a 96 3S-GE from a SSII celica)

Pic of engine bay from mr2 in question. My moneys on the 3sge thats ment to be there is there... (what? 3rd gen 3sge?)

you can tell from the inlet manifolds, the earlier model 3sges are very square, the later model ones just got rounder and rounder.

Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.
