Tachometer help?!?! Wires what? :p

Postby Zyros » Fri Feb 03, 2006 8:39 pm

Hey, got a tacho second hand (not them cheesy 5" monster ones, just a small 2" )

Wires include..

Orange, Black x 2, red, green..

Red to a 12 V source.. Would green be my earth or one of the blacks??

I know one of them goes to the coil, but im not sure how i do that.

Thanks.

One of the blacks is earth, and either green or orange goes to the coil, what brand is it?

K my guess (without looking at it) would be: Red- acc (off stereo etc for when key is on/off), both blacks-earth, orange-constant 12v (memory), green- coil (goes to negative ( - ) terminal on coil. :?

How do you get the plug off the fricking coil!! I pulled.. yanked.. blah blah so hard it snapped the negative wire.. not necassairly a bad thing seen i can crimpt on connectors and re-connect it with the tacho wire on.. except theres no room to strip the wire in the engine bay.. And the car wont start now..

i would imagine

Blacks x2 = earths. one will be for the bulb the other for the tacho
Red - ignition (connect off key barrel not off stereo. you want it on only when the key is ON)
one of either orange or green will turn the back light on, take each indiviudally to 12v for about .5 seconds to work out which one and connect this to your park light circuit. then the other will be your input from the coil. what sort of coil is it? what sort of car is it for that matter?

All hooked up, but the Pin wont move when rev's are applyed?

It flickers up and down when the engines on, the back light etc are on but it wont move? Do i have to set it or something? Its on 4 cyclinders via a switch at the back.. all wires conencted up properly.
