4AGE - What do i need?

Postby Vertigo » Mon Feb 06, 2006 8:16 pm

hey guys,

id just like a list of the bare essentials that i need to get a 4AGE running on the bench.

so far i only have a block, but will be getting more as i can afford to.

so to start it off:
block and head, with all internals
ecu
fuel rail, injectors, fuel pump
loom
afm/map sensor

what else?

How are you gonna cool it? And how will it start?

Dizzy, Leads, coil, Starter motor, water pump, hoses, sensors..... The list goes on.

It might be easier to start it in a car instead of on a bench.

was thinking of just using a big tub of water in place of a radiator :D wouldnt be running for long, so should be ok.

water pump is usually on the block already isnt it? well, was on mine

cant start it in a car unfortunately - its my daily runner, and if it doesnt work the first time, i might be screwed, so id rather be sure it runs.

ok, so add to the list:
dizzy, leads, coil, spark plugs
starter motor (actually, does this mean i will need a gbox attached? forgive my newbieness, i just figured i wouldnt need one until its in the car)

nope just need starter motor.. and backing plate to hold it on! shouldnt matter to much if you run it without water but not for long and obviously no excessive revving!

A few people have started their engines without putting oil in them... all the excitement I guess.

I can vouch...I seized a motor doing that.
In my case though it had an oil leak that I was not aware off so I was under the impression it still had oil...10 seconds after I started the motor I found out otherwise. :?

yea I almost had a similar thing happen, except I was just testing my start/ignition setup and didn't have spark or anything. I was just turning it over for a few seconds and then noticed a puddle of oil spill out from under the car...

turns out i was actually missing the oil pressure sensor which i hadn't noticed...
