OK, if 1L (!!!!) gets into engine there would not be stractches but BENT CONRODS, PIECES OF THE BLOCK FLYING OFF. I've seen that sort of damage it take 1 sec in the lake to get a "hydrostatic shock".
Water cannot be compressed, in fact it is easier to bend conrods/cranshafts crack block then to compress water. Especially if car doing high rpm (not idle), driving (especially in manual), there is a lot of rotating and moving mass to stop and that energy has to go somewhere, and it goes in bending rods and breaking block.
UNLESS your mechanic is like many arround is full of BS and wants you to pay for his holyday, just because you got some water on electrics and car stalled (or similar cause).
