Too low oil pressure ?

Postby Wolf_Tm250 » Tue Feb 07, 2006 11:16 am

Hi guys,

please try to tranquilize me...

Yesterday i had the first track session for my newly built engine ( 3SGTE 3rd gen ).

After 6 rounds I had to stop because, as I said in another thread, a weld in the wg feed pipe was broken and I had no more boost.

BTW...

after 6 rounds I had temp oil at 125 deg. C. and oil pressure at 2.5 bar at 4000 rpm...

A bit low in a 60.0 Kgm of torque engine, isn't it ?

Thank you, bye...

your oil could be thinning out when it gets that hot, I would suggest its time for a cooler. Personally I would prefer to see 4 bar/60 psi oil pressure minimum under load.
Could be time to modify the oil pressure relief valve in the pump also.
What was the pump like when it went onto the engine??
I hope it got a bit of attention, a check over at minimum, I prefer new myself but I dont know much about those particular engines (parts prices etc)
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!

I'm already an air/oil cooler in addiction to the stock water/oil cooler.
Maybe it's not so big, 15x15 cm. , and maybe it's not locate in the better place, now is just behind the front bumper where there was the side-marker ( i made a big opening )

Even me....

How ? Shimming it ?
By the way, I think that at 2.5 bar the relief valve is still closed...

PS: the pressure sensor is in the head.

New.

Thank you.

Genuine? Was it a turbo model pump or an NA version?

Some guys down here run a GTE block as NA ( na pistons etc)
and have too high oil pressure problems.

Yes, genuine turbo model...

Sorry, they use the NA pump on a GTE block ?

Kinda, They got ( given I think) a complete GTE engine and fitted custom pistons cams etc etc and converted it to NA. this was done a few years back now.
Not too sure why they went that way.

It could be, probably GTE oil pump flows more for the turbo...
