Care to qualify that?

I dunno, that's why I was asking.

Does a higher rear weight bias make a difference? Does lighter weight and therefore later braking make a difference? The power to weight ratios are pretty close (assuming the runx has all the power that is claimed.. claims come from the same place for the b/t and the 2zz)

You would assume the later and therefore more developed car would outperform the older model but I think they would be pretty even.

I don't really know, just good to discuss these sort of things I guess. Someone always comes out with something definitive eventually.

The celica on the other hand... Mmmmmmm :D

The pictured car managed a 15.3 in stock form (with the flappy bit that controls the intake below 3000rpm removed) and that's pretty good for a fwd.

I do think the 5 speed box would be better in all of these cars though, what you guys think?

yes the 140KW model with 6 speed is what hes looking at, I still dont have many good answers on these. Anyone got any sites that have some very good specs outlined etc?

Not to mention torque.
And of course there's also stuff that happens between the motor and the wheels i.e. gear ratios.
With a 4.550 final drive ratio the RUNX gets away quite smartly.

arguable, for a FWD NA car, they're pretty damn good, it's a pity that the 4wd one doesn't come with the good engine.

Does anyone know what they do on the quarter? 140 kw in a 1220kg car compared to 120 in a 1060kg car has them pretty even..

although I've seen the runx weight listed as 1160kg which would have it ahead on power to weight by a wee bit.

14.73 is the quickest I've seen mine do it... I wasn't driving, some other fulla who can actually do drags(well, compared to me with my 16.xx) was :)

mine comes in at exactly 1140KG with a full tank of gas, and no driver... unfortunately I add another ~130kg to that :(

I'm impressed, that's quite quick and does leave the ae111 behind. Yours is standard?

Now what's this "Type-R" thing that everyone talks about...

well, no.
I got it as an import, and it has had a few things done to it.

Air box is gone, had a pod sitting in the open engine bay at the time, now has CAI.

Exhaust has been changed, but to what extent I am unsure, it has since had one of the silencers and the CAT taken out, and it has freed up the high end.

From factory they have 4-1(of sorts, more like a hybrid 4-1 and 4-2-1, hard to explain) tuned exhaust.

The 140kw is at the crank, but they seem to give ~120kw at the wheels from dynos I've seen, and getting them to 140kw is "easy".

I have some info on my site, and I am continuously updating it(although I haven't in a while)

2WD, FWD, the 4wd one has sucky engine.

Cold air box was done locally, Daniel Robertson, Ridez custom fabrication, ridez@email.com 03 4740020 awesome guy, and excellant work.

Not dyno'd yet, but will be prior to a few upgrades.

TRD you say...

14.7 is about the same a decent AE111 with a good driver behind the wheel. I've run a 14.9 in mine on a unprepd track so I expect to shave a few 100ths of a second off that with some VHT layed down.

The best set up I've seen for the 2ZZGE is to put it into a MR-S. Then they haul arse as they only weigh about 1010kg !

thanks for the introduction information all. My friend has just laid a deposit on an 01 RunX Z 6speed vvti model, and it is silver. He also just put a deposit on a new pug 307 in black so, two hot hatches in his garage.
Hes definitely going to modify the RunX though, hes very eager on TRD parts though.

barryogen - thanks for the information and I'll give him the contact for that fabricator.
