hey al how much lighter are these than a standard nut? :? i didnt think standard ones were paricularly heavy :lol:

a lot! I need to weight them on some accurate scales - but i would less about 1/3 the weight. Have you held a full set of 20 steel nuts - they are actually quite heavy. 20 of these weighs next to nothing- plus, some might argue - they have certain aesthetic appeal :-)

yea i guess 20 of those standard nuts would be quite heavy. even a small weight difference adds up when you multiply by 20. if you could weigh them and doo a comparison thatd be sweet :D

I've got the sort of nuts which you need a adaptor from "single hex type to allen key type" (Advanti Vallens).
Do you have these sorts?
Are they lock nut type, or just plain?

of course, considering the nuts are located close to the center of rotation they will have virtually no effect on the total moment of inertia of the wheel :)

What about unsprung weight? Assuming someone had gone to all the expense and effort to get lightweight alloys. Might as well go the last 5%. :)

you mean 0.5%?

The ones I have (not from Driven) a full set of 20 weigh roughly the same as 4 standard nuts.

You do have to be careful not to over tighten the aluminium nuts too, I must've tightened two up too much and half way down the front straight at manfield I developed a wobble. The thread was stripping out of the nuts.
But, like I said earlier, I didn't buy the nuts I have off Driven, and I lay the blame on myself for over tightening.
Just something to keep in mind.

Which brings me to a question TWSTD, do you have correct/recommended torquing settings for these nuts?
Dirty DA Duz 14.4's, 48's (Taupo) & 1:25's (Manfield)

No - no lock nuts sorry.

OK - sample pic of the two styles avail and 2 of the 3 colours.

I have just weighed one alloy nut in at 23.7g
