Converting 3SGTE dizzy to multi coil direct fire ignitioin ?

Postby Mr Procrastination » Thu Mar 23, 2006 12:20 pm

Hey :)
Anyone know anything about the convertion possiblities ???
the 3sgte is going in a rwd setup in old celica and i would to remove the dizzy as it pokes right out the back of engine.
I have seen a few pis round lately of 18RGs and other old engins that apper to have had this done.
The cheaper the better, so thinking of the possablities of using standard parts of other engines.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Oh and all so if there is a forum that this has all ready been discusted on, please feel free to direct me there. :P

Umm ok sorry looks like those megaSquirt things are completle stand alone. So this would be a good time to mention i have been runing the engine on a V5 Link, so that type of unit looks like id stop using the link for ignition all together. And kind of like the ajustiblitly. So was thinking of expanding on my curent setup.

You could pinch the coil over plug setup from an Altezza/Cadina GT/Caldina GTT, as these are already setup for a 3sg(t)e.

Although it probably wouldnt make a difference either way, I suppose.

Hey dodgy

What version 3sge are you running, and witch megasquirt version.
Did you keep the distributer and use the NE and G1, G2 pickups, or did you opt to remove and make just a crank angle senser.

head is off caldina vvti beams, am running cam sensor 12-1, running verson 2.2 MSI. if you have a gen3/gen4 you have already a 32-2 tooth pickup on the cranks so can grind an extra tooth and your away!

just use the dizzy wheel as a cam sensor, then you dont have to worry about the detailed wiring. unles you wanted to keep all the original wiring.. :)

I've been told 1.8ms by someone that runs a Motec, but haven't got mine set up yet. Would be interested how it goes.

So i take it the caldena engine was originally a coil over plug engin. Are the megasquirt ecu easy to build and set up. I a pretty able sort of a guy, usualy like to do everything myself, so thinking of giving it a good. BTW what are V5 Links werth to sell these days, basicly new :)
