Anyone heading to Timaru tomorrow?

Postby JT » Sat Apr 01, 2006 3:41 pm

Just got myself a new motorbike, my old man is riding it from CHCH to Timaru so I need to get there. Could take the bus but it takes twice as long, probably 3 times compared to bike

So yeah, anyone heading that way or feels like a cruise? Would provide gas or a dozen cold ones

I'd take you if my car was working, but it takes me about three to three and a half hours to get to Timaru - because i go the speed limit. ;)

I would've turned it down anyway, the bus got me there quicker

Quite an eventful day, got to timaru and knew dad and rest of family was gonna be a bit late but after waiting for an hour I thought I'd give them a call. Dad had ran the bike out of gas. They went back to Hinds (?) but the local garage dude was like, nah we shut and couldn't care less. So they figure they'll give the AA a call only to realise they saw a sign for the AA at the station and he was the closest dude

Dad went back and told him he had to give him some gas, grumbling and reluctantly he gave them some gas and they got to Timaru 2 hours after I did. Had lunch, took a few photos at Caroline bay, beautiful day in Timaru before setting off after filling up.

Trip was going well, until some small hick town with a 80k speed limit, when a dog ran straight across the road. Saw it, braked hard and pulled to the left but it ran straight into my path and I hit it. Stopped and went to the house closest, four other dogs running around with the gate wide open  Dog I hit was limping and lady was apologetic so left it at that and carried on.

Finally reached killmog, was getting colder and then hit dense fog and gale winds. Just what I needed on my first ride over

Down into the city and bike wasn't liking taking off from lights, figured out why when it ran out of gas right outside Captain Cook. Twice in one day, awesome  person on the bar let me use the phone and shouted me a drink while I waited for mate with gas, legend.

I'm guessing bikes have to be filled up with petrol more often than cars then? :?

Well i haven't been up there for so long that i can't actually remember the exact amount of time - but i'm probably counting the few minutes it takes to get to Temuka as well. And i'm usually driving at about 95 km/h.

Meh, guess i'll never know exactly until i go back up there. :P

Was about 5 I came over. Yeah, it's even worse on a bike. Visor keeps misting up on the outside, not going fast enough to for it to wipe off.

tardme, just kept searching on 250 in the sport/tourer section. Got the guy to take it round to my folks place so my old man could checked it out for me.

It goes alright, pretty damn good on the open road for a 250 but I don't think I'll be able to last my licence conditions on it. Need more power

Specs are here http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?t=327

Apart from FZR and CBR another bike to look out for is the kawa ZXR250, don't waste your time or money with anything else in the 250 class though, 2 smokes included.

How many revs shall I use today?

Yeah JT's right best 250's would be CBR or ZXR for me but if you going to spend the money get an Aprilli RS250 they the shizzle even if a 2 stroke..
RGV's, TZR's and NSR's aren't electric start and for round town riding aren't the best..

Told you that you wouldn't last on a 250 fella :P ..
