Whoops.....

Postby TruenoBZG » Sun Apr 09, 2006 12:57 pm

So im going to change my oil today - Got the oil & filter (repco is cool for specials), get home and take out my trusty ol' drip tray.

After a small inspection, ive found a round papery thing with a hole in the middle of it - it has a very close resemblence to my sump plug washer
Mustve forgotten that one then..... :? I dont know how.

I have noticed some leaking from the sump recently - would there be any long term damage?

Ummm.... you could run out of oil and have you engine die?

If you've got a little oil spare then get a washer, take the sump plug out, put your finger over the hole, put plug back in with washer on and top it up again.

so where did u found that round papery thing with hole? in your oil drip tray after u drop the sump screw into the oil pool? is it an old sump washer? got any pic?

after changing new engine oil, it would leak a little engine oil, dun worry too much, but if it keep leaking for a week then u might wanna check the sump screw... did u have a sump washer on the sump screw?

it might leak a little without the sump washer, perhaps not, depend how tight u tighten the sump screw... it wouldn't have any long term damage, just check ur engine oil level frequently...
Cheers...

yeh, cheers for that

Found the washer in the drip tray from the previous change, so got a new washer for this one - just wandering about any damage it might have caused over the last 10,000ks - hopefully not too much!
Its got a nice shiny new washer in it now...

By the way Xavier - ive seen those red rims of yours on Boston road (i pass there now and then) Do you work down there somewhere? Maybe its someone elses car....

ahha.. i was guna say, and take a video of it.. could be amusing.

no wont have caused any damage internally at all. unless it leaked so much oil that it ran dry.. in which case u WOULD know.

When I was working at Shell as a "Petroleum Transfer Technician" I went to help a young lady after she was describing smoke coming from her bonnet, just after leaving another gas station down the road.

I opened it and found the filler cap off, and the entire block covered with oil, it was practically simmering infront of me. Then I found an empty oil container behind the battery.

No sign of the cap anywhere - I guessed it was the idiot at the other station, must have closed the lid with the container half full sitting on the engine. 8O Who knows why he/she didnt see it.
