Fiat starter motor compatibility?

I realise this is not toyota related but I have this Uno sitting round home that has been sitting there since Christmas, the only thing wrong with it is its an Uno, sorry I mean the only thing wrong with it is its starter motor is gone. I have a few starter motors lying round and was wondering would one of these work. No idea what type they are just wondering if any starter motor works on any engine.

All depends on the mounts and pinion teeth. starters are not universal, some may work, others may not. is it gone as in not there, or just broken?

Its not there.

I might just connect a couple up see if they work but the engines covered in oil and its a messy job, oh well.

I'd be careful when doing so, as you could damage the ring gear on the flywheel. if possible, open the solenoid by hand and turn the starter by hand to see if it meshes. thats not really as easy to do as say, since you cant see if it is meshing....but yeah, just be aware of possible damage that can be caused.

You could try going to pickapart and try one off LADA...
