ok. well thanks a lot for you help. I will see if there is anything about it at places like club4ag.

oh also, I connected the warning light to a led + 1k resistor. is there any way to check if it is working?

cheers

they are all in the multi pin plug at the centre top of the firewall under the bonnet.

You could check your warning led by jumping T1 with E1 in diagonstics tab...

hey mate,

i'm putting a silvertop 20v in my ae85.
what did you do with the two white wires that are beside the ignition (black/white and black/orange) wires? i matched the black ones up easy, but on the original ae101, those wires go into the big box of plug things to the right of the steering wheel.

do you know the ones i mean?
any chance i could come check out your wiring?

Usually fat white wires are constant 12v...

Postby johntramp » Thu Apr 13, 2006 7:43 pm

Hey, is this the water temp sensor on a 20v 4age? (ie. where I should connect a water gauge to?)

Hmm, I thought so... I connected it to that plug but the gauge didn't change at all when the plug was connected or not, just sat around 60 degrees. Maybe the gauge is faulty.

Ok, next question/

FC - Circuit Opening Relay

Is this for the fuel pump relay?

Cheers

[edit]
oh, also..

What is the difference between;

ELS1 - Electric cooling fan relay
and
CF - Cooling fan relay

I have been trying to get the diagnostics plug working and I found that this plug seems to intercept the wires between the ecu and the diagnostics plug.

(Sorry about the crap picture quality)

I am guessing that I should be taking out this plug and mating the matching wires together. Is this correct?

I think ELS is actualy "Electric Load Sense" connect that through diodes to stop lights, lights, rear deffoger in this way (ascii art):

Lights ────────>├────┐
Stp Lghts──────>├────┼───── ELS1 (ECU)
Deffoger ──────>├────┘

And CF is to activate Cooling fan relay, but I did not used this, and connected fan thermoswitch directly to fan relay (I think the CF is actually should be connected in "parallel" to fan thermoswitch anyway)...

Ok, so do I need to worry about the ELS stuff? What does the ECU have to do with the lights etc?

I see there is;
ELS1 - cooling fan relay
ELS2 - blower relay
ELS3 - taillight relay
ELS4 - defogger switch

Also, what is the fan thermoswitch?

Cheers

ELS allows the ECU to open up the idle air circuit to keep the car idling when electrical loads go on the alternator. if you dont connect it you run a small risk of stalling everytime you turn a big electrical load on.. i its a race car i wouldn't bother, but its a nice thing to have in a road car :)

ok, so for me ELS isn't very important at all at this stage.

if you want to hook it up, later on, don't use diodes as I told you earlier as you have multiple ELS inputs just use those, and conncect in parallel to load wich they are designated for.

alright, ill look into that later. What about the thermoswitch for the fan, where did you get that from? Off the thermostat?

thermo switch is located on thermostat housing, white plug, pointing towards left front guard on FWD (or away from camblet)
