20v rods and pistons weights and strengths wanted.

Postby Grrrrrrr! » Sun May 14, 2006 5:55 pm

Looking at a performancve 20v build and dont have an accurate set of scales around, wondering if anyone knows the following:

weight of the standard Silvertop 20v pistons with pin.
ditto for blacktop and any aftermarket pistons out there
eg
ACL forged 20v pistons, piston weight: 284grams, pin weight 75 grams.

And rods: weight and if anyone has any idea how much they strecth at 9000rpm or a modulus of elasticity that would be bloody brillant. again, for silvertop and blacktop and any aftermarket items

Dont want to get the block decked and end up with pistons hitting the head.

well why bother with the blacktop rods? if you want 9000rpm you cant use them as they cant handle that for long

im pretty sure the weights are on club 4ag tech section somewhere....

and yeah, blacktop rods over stock power/rpm isnt a good idea, silvertop may be ok but probly not, go for alloy billet like crower maybe? i think they make them anywhos. Im assuming NA application here, which is why your asking about weight.

I'm going to gather as much data as i can before i decide which rods i use, budget unfortunately is a factor, at least until i win 17mil in powerball next week :)

How many people have had blacktop rods fail on them?

Hmmm, and how long will blacktop rods last if the pistons are 10% lighter than stock?

I'm actualy looking more at the idea of blacktop pistons (or aftermarket pistons) on the silvertop rods.

But i figured having the info here would be useful for anyone else considering upgrading.

So what do you want?

Piston weight with or without rings? Gudeon pins?

And rods with rod bolts in them? what about bearing shells?

I dont remember the weights, but I did weight them all a wile ago to compare and see what the diference's are within a set,
and they were next to nothing. The Scale I used was a paint scale and accurate down to .01 gram.

Blacktop rods are around the 508g mark. Accurate to 1g only unfortunately.

without rings, pistons and pins seperately if possible, but if you weighed them with the pins in them its all good. if the rings were on there thats cool, just specify that.

And rods with rod bolts in them?

Again, however you weighed them is fine, just specify if the bolts (and what sort - std toyota, arp, whatever) were in them.
