GT-T Centre Console queries

Postby WanaGo » Tue May 09, 2006 10:36 pm

Hey,

Just in the process of finding a buying a Caldina GT-T.
I have searched the forums here and on the net for quite a while now, trying to find info I need etc.

The GT-T im looking at is a 98 Tiptronic, but I have found that the centre consoles vary a bit between cars. Some of them look like they have a CD/DVD player at the top of the console, for the NAV Im guessing, or a popout screen. Others have Up and Down buttons with buttons numbered 1 to 6, and a few other random japaneese buttons. I was just wondering what this particular component was.

If it is infact a form of navigation (the one with the number pad 1-6 etc), does it work in NZ, or Can it be made to work in NZ, or can it be removed and something else be put in there easily, without have to refabricate the whole centre console etc.

Thanks.

Heya. I have the green-screen display at the top of the console in mine. It's a trip computer - shows average speed / average fuel consumption / compass. The compass is in jap so not really useful.

I'm led to believe it also has a jap street map thing, possibly works off gps. There is definitely no english conversion available, and it definitely won't work in NZ anyway.

As for replacement, the green screen unit is not a standard din or half din size, so not sure what you could put there.

The fold out nav screen on some models looks to be close to din size, with a bit of massaging you could probalby fit a head unit or aftermarket fold out screen there.

It would be a pain to try to fabricate something, because although the shape is not difficult, it has a texture which would be impossible to match.

Wow Snytoy, you have a really nice looking Caldina, nice paint job in your pic!
Is that a factory colour, or is that custom done? (as asked on your profile).

From what your reply said - the Green screen display.... is that like what Gtt-trainer has: Link
or is it with all the buttons including the buttons with 1 to 6 on them?

The one I am looking at is not like Gtt-trainer's.

Thanks

Thanks, it's a factory colour :)

The link there doesn't seem to be working.
This is my console, if you'll excuse the crazy lights you should get the idea.

Fixed the link.

Wow those lights are trippy!

I think you have the same as what the one im looking at has.
Does it look like it would be easy to remove all that stuff and make cubby holes or something else?

Xero - is yours the same as that too?

Cheers

As XERO says, there is a version with a cubby hole there already. Most non GTT's have the cubby hole with lid. I would think you could pick one up from a wrecker quite easily/cheaply.

The lights are a work in progress... very slow progress.. hah. Eventually they should be all blue!

our gt nonturbo gets the green screen too. its actually pretty handy to keep an eye on fuel consumption and average speed on long trips. also funny to watch the lil pic of a car heading towards random jap symbols.

Just brought a 98 Caldina GT-T :D :D :D

It has the centre console with the cubby hole and flip down lid in it already, so that is ultra handy.

I have a whole bunch of questions I want to ask about other bits and pieces on the caldinas etc, but I will search first, and post a new topic.

Thanks heaps for everyones input.

Pics will be posted when the car arrives. I brought it in Wellington, but I was only up in the north island for graduation - now live in southland for work. I have to wait for it to either be shipped, or I have to drive it down when I go back up in a few weeks. Hopefully I can get it shipped this week.

Have so many questions to ask, most are probably silly, as I havent owned a toyota before - still trying to do my research before I ask.

Cheers.
