byebye first engine

Postby Cakky » Thu Jun 01, 2006 6:38 pm

So, anyway, I check the radiator the other day and oil ALL through it, crap, blown headgasket, check oil, bone dry :(

Got the bad news back from the mechanic today, the blocks been cracked, the cooling systems screwed, basically engine f***ed lol.

So i guess its throw out time and start looking around for something new?

Options:
Blacktop?
Supercharged?

Would it be cheaper to import an engine from japan? where would i start looking for this?

Will the blacktop be significantly better then the redtop i had? Or should I just go the whole hog while I'm at it and go with a 4AGZE?

Money is an issue, but I'm going to probably have to go see the finance company :(

are you wanting to upgrade the performance?

or just get it running again?

a redtop TVIS will be cheapest and easiest option to just swap....but yeah depends what you want to achieve with the new engine

thought you were going to pamper that because it was so origonal...

anyway

If $$ is an issue, why not just go for another 16v4age which will just drop in and not need a new loom ecu etc.

another thing to consider, is, can you do any of the work yourself. Even just an engine swap (for same engine) will cost a little through a mechanic.

What sort of loan money will you be getting- this will help people help you.

The car was running fine and has been ever since i bought it, it was only when I checked it yesterday it was stuffed :(

When I first got the car, there was no antifreeze in the radiator, the mechanic is guessing that although I soon put antifreeze in it, the damage internally was already done, with me never to know until now :\

Well, the way I sort of see it, is that I always originally intended to swap it for a 4AGZE at some point and well now seems the appropriate time to do it.

I'm going to talk to my finance company tommorow and see what they can do for me in terms of my current term and extensions etc etc...

Will my clutch handle a 4AGZE? If i drive it nicely? Lol.

Thanks for the help guys..

put another red top in there, don't muck about with a transplant. The only real value your car has is the originality factor. If you do a transplant, you've just ruined that.

sorry to hear. well i had the same problem about 1year ago. my car was always overheatin and the water would just disspear. even if i had fill it up b4 i took out. the result from this was tat the head gasket was gone. got it 2 the workshop and they pulled it a part and but a new gasket and a new head on it.

The bottom part was all gud so just had the 2 replace all the rings and seals. put a new top end, which was skimed and pressure tested and but together with a new springs and values. all up it cost me $2000. :x tat was with the labour, service, parts, and the extra work done to it. but was worth every peneny. now the car goes like hell. :D

LOL, That would be taking a step backwards. I think your 4afe was just lucky. Mine packed a sad at 180kms, but then I did give it hell

I think you should keep it N/A. Either black top or silver top, depending on your available funding.

And as for funding, go to your bank first before going to a Finance Company. They will have lower interest rates. (Well mine does)

Yeah, stick with redtop, it'll be the cheapest option.

Definitely.

If you've got no money of your own to spend, then take the simplest cheapest option.

Well I've found out my mechanics trying to shaft me..

He tells me,$800 - $900 for a new red-top engine :?

I went and saw a wrecker today, who was actually the wrecker my mechanic talked to about my car as the wrecker said my mechanic had rang him yesterday about an engine.

The wrecker told me $600 cash price 8O.

So it looks as though the mechanic has tryed to overprice me $200 grr..

And, on top of that, he said now hes unsure if the blocks stuffed and he wants to pull the engine apart to make sure. I don't particularly want to be charged a few hours labour to find out its stuffed.

So hopefully, if I could find someone to chuck in the engine as a perky for me , I might be able to get it back on the road for under a grand. Still weighing up pros and cons of a blacktop or a 4agze though..

cheers for the help guys

actually id say the wrecker is trying to shaft the mechanic...

that price is about right for retail quoted to the trade.

iv had it happen to me, call up and get quoted one price, then the customer walks in and gets quoted several hundred dollars less.

as the customer has cash, and the trade works on accounts etc the wrecker would prob rather take the cash right there and then

if you can get the motor for $600 just do that
you'll end up spending more money making your current motor go
