I jsut put Jamex springs into my GT-Z a month or so back and threw in KYB's all round while I was at it. The ride is pretty firm but I was disappointed at the lack of height reduction in the rear, the front is fine but the rear is pretty much standard. I wasnt asking for much but reduction but I would be surprised if I got any.

The best reason not to buy one, this was a derby car hit at around 60kph side on by an AE101 on a slippery muddy track. There wasn't even a mark left on the AE101.

Yeah, they dont fair well in crash tests...but then again, Ive seen a 101 hit on the side at about 50 and it didnt look any better really.

yeah...... i had a GTXX once..... two door and u sit entirly inside the door frame
had the door trim off oneday and was pretty shocked....
side impact consisted of outer door skin, thin metal bracket that help the power window buttons, and the plastic door trim.......
ie a push bike could go through it :?

as opposed to my ae101 that has a big side impact beam

You could always strip it and cage it. Surely you wouldnt be planning on putting people in the back anyway?

Pros of that : Safer, less rattles from less trims. Possibly lighter etc.

Cons: You tell me. :P

And dont you HAVE to cage derby cars?

Well the deal fell through :(

Eventually he decided he didn't want to trade for my Galant as he didn't like the autobox. I was even gonna throw in $800!

It was a 93 done 190,000 and he was lookin for $4000, from what I've seen on here that may have been a bit high. If anyone want's to trade I'll give you my car and $800 for your Detomaso :)

It's 92 Mitsi Galant, (new shape) 2L V6, automatic, done 180,000 K's, MP3/DVD heady (no screen included). Will put new WOF on for ya.

The motors in them are pretty wah wah.
Ive had better experiences revving out 3.8L commodores than those detomaso motor. They go okay but they just dont rev, probably due to sohcness.

I definately agree there. They will rev to 7500 before rev cut, but anything past 6000rpm and you dont go any faster.

Mine rev cuts at about 6250 I think! I was shocked. But yeah, definitely not a motor that likes to rev.

not that its the best to go by, but the gauged redline is at 6500, so i dont know why you would expect anything more over 6. Its like a 4age person trying to run their car to 8500 and complaining it lost all pep at 6500...

I dont know the specs, but I guess it may be more long than square

Yeah, the other point is that you don't need to rev the DeTomaso. It will pull happily from idle in top gear, and it has oodles of torque from 3000. Unlike my beloved 4AGE's ;)

Wicked little cars, my wife has had one for years, the first one got stolen, had 17s lowered etc fukn gutted.

She got another but just keept it stock, for the money you pay they have bloody good interior all being recaro, handle awesome for a standed car and are pretty good on gas.

My sisiter had one. Was a bit girly for my liking but it was red. Black or sliver/white would be allrigh. The factory interior is very well spec's. Had lots of go down low but that single cam donk just didn't rev enough for me. 6500rpm rev limit just doesn't cut it in this world of 20v's & VTEC's. We ripped off the standard air box & intake pipe and replaced it with a alloy intake pipe & K&N pod which made a big difference. The factory air box was SO restrictive. A set of cams, exhaust & chip/SAFCII would porbably make it into a reasonably quick little car

Interesting to know.
The cam and extractors are actually the only modified parts in the engine, compared to a stock applause engine. I'm not sure changing the cam would do anything apart from making it less streetable.

The low down power is great, and I very quickly got used to not wringing the cars neck in every gear. Certainly a big contrast between this car, and my silvertop. But hey, the Charade will probably last longer without the big rev attempts ;)
