As long as the car meets the Schedule A safety requirements (link posted by Leon) you should be good for most regional rallies, other than those exclusive to 2WDs/classics (of which there have been a couple recently in the North Island). However depending on the event you might be thrown into an open 4WD class instead of pre-92 or pre-96.
From reading the regs for South Canty's rally in July (
http://www.southcanterburycarclub.org.n ... ppRegs.pdf) there are two classes you could probably enter, 'Over 1600cc 4WD' (class C) or 'Pre 96' (class J). I'm not sure about the exact eligibility requirements for pre-96 but if you contact the rally organisers (try Paul Dickson,
pjdickson@xtra.co.nz) they should be able to help you.
Also, keep an eye on
http://www.onlinemotorsport.net as it has details on each regional rally series, including regs for each event. And join us on its forum, there are a number of people there who organise these series and/or rallies in the series and who are more than happy to answer these types of question.
We know that four-wheel drive doesn't work in a racing car, and I proved to myself that it doesn't work very well for rallycross. I'm absolutely convinced that it has no future in rallying, either, even if the regulations allowed it. - Roger Clark (rallying legend), circa 1976
