'help' 3sgte problems

Postby 1loose_mr2 » Fri Jun 16, 2006 4:19 pm

hi
i own a celica gt4(st185), and im having problems with the engine.
it all started when i installed a pod filter.
the first thing i did was remove the stock filter and i remove the air flow metre aswell,so that i could bolt on a adapter ,then when i reinstalled it,i forgot to plug the AFM in lol, and then i cranked it over,it started, reved to about 2000 and then the revs droped to about 500rpm and then it stalled.
so i remembered that i forgot to plug the AFM in.so i plugged it in,cranked it over,it was running fine for about 5 seconds and then again the revs droped to 500rpm and stalled.
so what have i done to the engine? ecu problems? AFM problems?
help me please ,i just want it on the road again

thanks

Tried resetting the ECU? Disconnect the battery for 10mins?

Check the engine diagnostics... it should be in the bgb...

search for mr2 bgb in google and check it out mate...

check for anything loose you didnt plug back in...also check the connections on the AFM plug to the AFM might be dirty give em a clean with some electical cleaner, also check the wiring for that plug when you took it off you may have broken a wire....

if all else fails put the standard filter back in and try that might be worth a shot

The only things you've removed are the airbox and standard filter? At a guess, I would say there is still a problem with the AFM connection, or there is a leak between the AFM and throttlebody, so theres more air than the AFM is reporting to the ECU, hence the stalling. Double check all the connections for the AFM, and check your piping for any holes or splits.

i did remove the intercooler so i can mock up a front mount but i put it all back together, and went for a drive,it was all sweet.
i remove all the pipes from the turbo to the filter but put it all back together
properly, it shat it self when i started it with out the airflow metre connected.i was drivering my car with out a air filter for a night and had no problems so i think its got nothing to do with the filter

Had the same problem when i did some changes to the AFM piping to Turbo inlet, I would start the car and it would stall, the problem was there was leaks between the AFM to turbo on the piping, i found my piping from the turbo had a massive crack underneth it and that was what was causing the issue, i tighten it up as tight as i could to get it all working again but replaced the pipe and the car runs 1000% better, i suggest you check all your connections are tight, once i had fixed mine the car does not suck the gas and it runs so much better power wise

Maybe silly... But is the afm the right way around?

I had mine backwards once.... lol.

Did the same thing as yours.

If not, my money is on a major vaccum leak.

If you use the throttle, can you hold the revs up and prevent it from stalling?

That sounds like a massive vaccum leak if it will run with throttle.

Yeah, my thoughts too. If you can keep it going then its likely to be vacuum issues. Have a good hunt around
