Hiace electric or cable speedo? and info on vans in general

Postby TruenoBoy » Sun Jun 04, 2006 11:06 am

Just wondering if anybody knows if hiaces are electric spedos or not? Looking around at 1990-1999 range of hiaces ones with 2.8d 3L engine. If they are does anybody know how to switch it? which wire/s etc?

Also whats all the different specs on hiaces on the different models etc, ie. gl, dx. or where could i find out info on them?

The 1995 nz new 3l manual hiaces we have at work all have senders rather than cable, although as revhead says, both types are used in those year ranges. Sounds like you're trying to switch off the odo for 3 days a week to cheat the RUC?
Im sure that switching any of the wires would stop the signal reaching the dash correctly, or you could just unscrew the cable from either the box or the dash. If this IS why you're asking about switching it (I only assumed this was the reason?), then may you hope like hell that you don't get busted cos you'll end up in a power of sht if if you do.
Not sure on specs, they seem to be either 'hose me out' viny interiorl workhacks, or super crazy jdm type plush interiors with the coach seating in the back.

OK sorry let me rephrase.

I know their must tbe many variations, just researching as i am in the market for one. Does anybody know of any sites that list specs for different variations/models/ nz new or imports.

If put this way I am probally looking at a 2.8d (3l)with an electronic speedo. Workmate has a 96 model cant remember if its nz new or import though. prehaps 95 - 96 is when they started using electronic speedo?

air con would be nice would this just b in the import models or do some later nz models have it? Just anything really, whats the main differences between models, zr, gl, dx etc...

As for switching it "" to switch it off for track days .... yes yes that'll do"" of course im not never going to pay for ruc the ability to control k's would b handy. lol electronic or not theres always one way.

Anyway more interested in specs on differnt years/ models if anybody knows any sites with info.

Not sure what mine van spec is but it's the lowest grade possible.

feartures include,

No passengers side sunvisor, ( the holes are blanked off from factory)
no rear wiper is common, but mine also has no heated rear screen.
no intermittant wiper function, just off or on,
no central lock,
did have AM only 1 speaker radio,
but it does have air con.

It's a 1996 import, with elec speedo and digital odometer
It's the 6 stud version non 4wd 2.8 diesil,
which means there are f all mags that will fit.
Long wheelbase, double sliding doors.

Thats about it.
