Still getting a bit of detonation occasionally on 98, has anyone knocked the timing on a BT back a degree or two and noticed a difference?

My first toyota an AE92 FXGT used to run pretty bad when cold so I let it warm up for a few minutes one day before I drove it & problem solved. I've scince done it with all my cars & have never had a problem with hesitation or miss firing. I just asume 4AGE's dont like being driven when cold.
In some casese here though it probably has something to do with faulty temp sensors or thermostat being stuck open

Demism the price of my o2 sensor was about $360 + gst. That could be trade price as the dealer paid for it.
