Bluetop v's Smallport

Postby Maxwedge » Thu Jul 13, 2006 11:41 am

I have two complete engines for a AE82 FXGT, a bluetop and a smallport. I wish to do some basic mods, TRD 0.8 gasket, ARP rodbolts, filter, extractors, rings, bearings and cams around 264 from Kelfords. Which engine would perform better in both torgue and HP figures- I am using the car as a club car doing hillclimbs etc

u after torgue? or HP?
torgue go with smallport (which i think u want as ur doing hillclimbs, etc)
hp then go bigport as u can get more hp out of, but u loose torgue as tvis is normal removed when paying with cams.(normally get higher hp with higher spec motors)
i would go with s/port but its all up what your going to just the motor for in the end.
oh yeah, blah blah blah it an opnion

Ummmm I have microport, ports smaller than smallport and I run 177.5hp at the wheels NA. The only circumstance I can see you running out of flow on a smallport is if you are running over 250hp. Even then I'd probably still use a smallport head and hog it out until I got the required flow.
Smallports seriously rock. For all out no money concern, race engines you simply can't beat it for a base. For a standard road engine its probably just pipped at the post by the 20 valves, but even then its debatable.

And thats due to c/r, not neccesairly the flow either.

The best engine's arent opinion, they're fact
