Few 4age questions??

Postby TRD_ZERO » Sun Jul 16, 2006 12:39 pm

HI there i am new to this forum as i have just purchased a ae111 levin bzg which just came from japan loaded with cool things...... anyway im wanting to get more power out of this engine without going forced induction. Ive heard of ram tubes that can be put on the quad throttle bodies what are the pros and conns to these, who has tried them and can they feel a difference and are they worth the money?? I was speaking to Jade with the GTZ and he said he knew someone who was able to suit a piggy back computer to these, does anyone know of this?? is it worth getting an aftermarket ecu for these if so what do u reccomend? Im wanting 200hp at the flywheel with this engine which is only 35hp over factory, am i asking too much? what about cams has any1 had some lumpy cams installed and was there a noticable difference. any other things that i could do to get more power from this engine bar extractors? all constructive feedback appreciated.

actaully thats about 40-50hp over stock

which is a lot to gain from an n/a engine

do a search, there is HEAPS of info on those exact questions

but in short, trumpets need to be chosen carfully, and need a good air box

If you get 200 at the flywheel without a turbo im gona top myself  im barely over that with my mr2!

My Ae92 levin (4age 16valve) got really good gains from a piggy back ecu tuned for bp ultimate... also a free flowing exhaust made a noticable difference, just be carefull its not too loud, Make sure if you stick a pod filter on that its actually got a good source of cold air... IMHO hanging a pod filter off the throttle body is a waste of time....

Hey,

I went to papakura autoelectrical and got a unichip. I know people hate piggy backs but its hard to source a standalone for a reasonable price...

Tuning for 98octane i went from 81kw @ the wheels to 92kw, Not just peak power but an increase accross the whole rev range with a real boost after 5500rpm. It may be higher than that now because when the dyno was run the muffler had inploded - when we took it off you couldnt see any light through it even if you had it pointed at the sun... while i was there i got a full catless exhaust system, keeping the original headers as i had trouble sourcing good headers at short notice.

Fuel economy also increased, i forget the exact figure but i was getting the same km/$ in february 2005 that i was getting in may 2002.... if you factor in the raise in cost of fuel over that time thats quite a saving...

I still get about 550k's from 40 litres (communiting 25's each way in heavy traffic on the daily commute), could probably go past 650km/40l on the run down to welly if i sat on 110km/h

Hi, welcome to TS, good choice of car :)

As Mr Revhead mentioned, every one of the questions you asked has been asked and answered many, many times in the Tech forum. Please check out the Search function at the top of the page, as it will save you (and everyone else) a lot of time answering these same questions.

[Fake edit] This thread http://forums.toyspeed.org.nz/viewtopic.php?t=38582 is probably exactly what you're looking for [/Fake edit]
