George St layout

Postby barryogen » Fri Aug 11, 2006 5:00 pm

Whats the thoughts on the new layout?

lots of "no turning" signs, and badly placed... they mix too much with the parking signs.

My thoughts?
If you're gonna make a change such as this, a bit better advertising would be good.

Hell, the reasoning was to help the buses keep ontime, maybe they should ban all cars from say hanover to dowling? I don't see much wrong with it, anyone else?

It was in The Star and ODT and was mentioned quite a bit, assumedly it was on the radio too. I'm going to check it out tomorrow morning before i go get some stuff on my car fixed. Hopefully i don't turn where i'm not supposed to.

I don't think cars should be banned from there, but perhaps all the parks could be removed and a couple (one each way) of bus+taxi+emergency lanes could be created instead, cars can go in the middle of the road? I dunno. This is why i failed at structural engineering school (okay, might help that i never went to/applied for it but still).

Gonna be sh*tehouse I reckon. Probably better if you're just going along George Street and not turning.

I'm hardly ever down that way anyway so dont really bother me :)

This is a good change.
Often pedestrians muck this up for everyone.
The left turning person cannot turn due to people crossing... then when he CAN turn a right turning person blocks him.

I reckon heaps of people will get this wrong...

maybe to reduce congestion they reduce the amount of laps people can do in a set time period. Do people have any else to do with their time/petrol???
IMHO this is biggest reason for George street being clogged up.... 8O

Try driving down the main at 7.50am, 8.50am, 5.10pm etc etc. I some how doubt people doing the laps are the main problem. What they could do is compleatly remove george st, as they have removed the main street in chch. They would need to change the surrounding traffic systme quite a bit tho.

I think it works great!!

Seems to be a easy, cheap way to help north/south bound traffic. Who can argue with that.
It probably was the cheapest traffic improvement ever thought of!!!!

Yay for saving me my rates!!!! :P

Or at least about 2 blocks of it and make it into a mall like many other cities, not just Chch.
