Hey people. Anyone had any expairence with the Internal and external garret gt3071. Im looking to put one on a resonable modded 3sgte. Can olny seem to find internal wastegated ones in the shops. Thinking i might sell off the tial external wastegate to help finanse the internal wastegated version. Or will i find im cutting myself short on the performance side of thing.
Cheers any expearianced or factual advise would be great.
PM Lith, he has been doing alot of research on the GT3071R, I believe he was looking at the internal gated one.

Cheers for that the engine has had a rebuild, forges, head work done and a set of bigger cams, BIG throttle body... sort of mods.
Crnkin do you think the gt3071wg is a little on the big side??
could you not just get the internally gated one and weld the wastegate closed and run external or is there something i'm missing? or else surely someone can order the turbo with no wastegate
well if there is no real differance in the turbos then id happyly go internal.
But there is no way id spend 2+ grand on some thing that wasnt quite right and get happy with the welder!!! If you know what i mean.
the gt3071 is a frickon bangin turbo, and probably going to make some huge numbers on a 3sgte. Very good turbo choice i'd say. The gt2571 makes 350whp on a 4age, so the gt3071 on a 3sgte will be very close to 500 whp id assume
From what Lith said, avoid the internal gated version, the housing is too small. Among other reasons which escape me right now.

Yea ive pm Lith but have had no replie. Id certonaly prefer the external one thats for sure, but of course there is more coin involved. And wonderd why the external version seems to be so much harder to find. Is the internal just more popular? if so why???
Is anyone running one of these? what sort of numbers are being made with supporting mods? Is one likely to find boost creap a problam with a modifyed engine?
The garrett cataloge states the turbo is suited to a 1.8 to 3L engine with a max out up of 480hp. So id asume that it could handle a modified 2L easly. But have seen a couple of not so flash reports on the internal version including report of boost creap. So would be good to get some first hand knowlage.

I was planning on going for .64 ar exhuast housing.
MMM Boost do you know Lith's resoning behind saying the the housing is too small? Surly both the compresser and exhorst housings can just be swapped for higher AR ones.

What do you mean by enlarged IIRC???. Id read that the unit has very good spool up, and had seen a couple of dyno sheats on ATP's web sight that tended to show good spread of power from the turbo with the .64 AR exhaust housing.
And it is my understanding that the internaly gated version uses the T25 housing.
Any ideas about the external gated version with the T3 housing?

Well that's how some people find things out, including myself, nobody told me what the GT28RS mated to 3S-GTE would be like, I promptly found out myself.
Yeah sell it off, I recently sold a GT2871R for $1500, and maybe you could go something a bit softer, like a CT20b or something?
