ST205 WRC

Postby TRDPWR » Mon Aug 28, 2006 11:06 am

hey guys i have a 93 st205 wrc which i bought recently as a track car and ive just taken the engine out to do some work to it.

the mods im thnkig of doing are these

remove cat 3" downpipe and all the way out to the back.
new spark plugs/leads
battery to the boot
full cold air box
cranking up the boost (not sure what these can take it runs 13psi at the moment but ive been told they can take up to 25spi so id assume 18 would be fine)

possibly the suspention as they shocks are rooted.

any sugestions or guidlines for these mods any help would be good.

i had a look throught the seach but id be there for years reading every post :)

Don't go over 18psi, and running 18psi is a bit dangerous and there is a chance that you will hit fuel cut. Make sure you have good gas (98 from BP, or atleast 97.5 from Mobil)...

EDIT due to bad wording as pointed by Akane

providing the air/fuel ratio is fine, it isnt running to much timing or worse, detonating - the engine and turbo is in good nick then theres no reason not to run 18psi, however you can only know this by having a wideband o2 sensor hooked up and some sort of knock detector.

to be on the safe side just run 16 psi it takes boost cut and excessive engine wear out of the equation.focus more on letting your engine breathe a little bit better with extractors full exhaust ect. after that get a after market ecu its the key to really getting safe reliable performance out of your engine

I've just googled for ST205 fuel cut, and internet info states that it occures in 17-18psi area.
So what we need is just "real" people to confirm this.

My high boost setting is 17psi from memory. Also remember ST205 fuel cut is a soft cut, it will knock you back, flash the light, but you can keep going, unlike earlier models.

And of course run 98 octane when running high boost.

Being a track car you will of course monitor EGT won't you?
