More Grunt From 1KZ-TE

Postby Muzzie » Sun Sep 10, 2006 8:15 pm

96 Hiace coach, 1KZ-TE (Turbo 3.0L Diesel)

Wanting a bit more exhaust sound, and a bit more get up and go.

Not after a quick fix - will be permanent & must be reliable. Tows a car trailer too, so more torque wouldn't go a miss.

And what sorta boost can be safely run through one of these. I'm not talking running it up to 20 PSI or anything stupid, but if I can safely run a couple more PSI through it then why not.

Not unlimited budget obviously, but not chicken feed budget either :)

Not sure if V8s are your thing but Toyota did actually do Hiaces in V8 form as a JDM special vehicle (eg. Ambulances). Used the 1UZ-FE naturally.

Yeah, that's the one mate. UZH122V chassis they called it or something.
It doesn't feature on the EPCs though.

Mal's got a spec sheet on it from Michelle B a while back.

Interesting read! :)

Those there were 1UZ vans from factory?

The 1KZ-TEs dont go too bad standard, bit more boost would probably make it go a bit better but end of the day... look what you're playing with. Put a 1HD in it :D

*decides to rephrase*

Long term project might involve a 1UZFE yes.

For now, I want more grunt from what I have!

Aparently putting a larger exhaust on helps, as does adding an intercooler if it doesnt have one already.
